Pinguicula 'Gamma' is an attractive Mexican butterwort hybrid that combines the distinctive characteristics of Pinguicula rotundiflora and Pinguicula emarginata. Both parent species originate from the mountainous regions of Mexico, where they inhabit moist limestone cliffs, moss-covered rock faces, and shaded seepage zones. This hybrid inherits the compact growth habit and ornamental qualities of its parents, forming neat rosettes of succulent leaves that remain highly decorative throughout the year.

Like other members of the genus, Pinguicula 'Gamma' captures small insects using specialised leaves covered in microscopic glands that produce a sticky mucilage. Tiny flies, fungus gnats, and other small arthropods become trapped on the leaf surface, where digestive enzymes break down prey and release nutrients that are absorbed directly through the foliage. The foliage is typically bright green to yellow-green, often developing pink, peach, or reddish highlights under brighter conditions. Mature plants produce attractive flowers on slender stalks held above the rosette, usually displaying shades of pink to lavender-purple influenced by both parent species.

This hybrid follows the seasonal growth cycle typical of many Mexican butterworts, producing actively carnivorous foliage during favourable growing conditions and transitioning to a compact succulent rosette during cooler or drier periods. Pinguicula 'Gamma' is particularly appreciated by collectors for its balanced growth habit, colourful foliage, and attractive flowers. Combining the charm of two distinctive Mexican species, it represents an excellent example of the diversity and horticultural potential found within cultivated butterwort hybrids.
