Pinguicula 'Kun Lun' is a vigorous Mexican butterwort hybrid that combines the impressive size of Pinguicula gigantea with the compact growth and refined characteristics of Pinguicula jaumavensis. Both parent species originate from the limestone-rich mountains of Mexico, where they inhabit rocky cliffs, seepage zones, and moss-covered outcrops. The hybrid inherits traits from both parents, producing an attractive rosette that is larger than many common butterwort hybrids while retaining a neat and balanced growth habit.

Like other butterworts, Pinguicula 'Kun Lun' captures small insects using specialised leaves covered in microscopic glands that produce a sticky mucilage. Tiny flies, fungus gnats, and other small arthropods become trapped on the leaf surface, where digestive enzymes break down prey and release nutrients that are absorbed directly through the foliage. The leaves are typically broad, smooth, and bright green, often developing subtle pink, peach, or bronze tones under brighter conditions. Mature plants produce elegant lavender to violet-purple flowers on slender stems held above the foliage, creating an attractive display that complements the large rosette.

This hybrid follows the seasonal growth cycle characteristic of many Mexican butterworts, producing actively carnivorous foliage during favourable conditions and transitioning to a smaller succulent rosette during cooler or drier periods. The influence of P. gigantea contributes strong growth and larger leaves, while P. jaumavensis adds compactness and ornamental refinement. As a result, Pinguicula 'Kun Lun' is highly regarded by collectors seeking a butterwort that combines impressive size, attractive flowers, and reliable performance in cultivation.
