Pinguicula 'Gina' is a well-known Mexican butterwort hybrid developed in cultivation and valued for its vigorous growth, attractive foliage, and ease of cultivation. Believed to involve Pinguicula agnata and Pinguicula zecheri in its parentage, this hybrid combines desirable characteristics from both species, producing a neat rosette of succulent leaves that remains attractive throughout the year. Its adaptability and reliable growth have made it a popular choice among both new and experienced carnivorous plant growers.

Like other butterworts, Pinguicula 'Gina' captures small insects using specialised leaves covered in microscopic glands that secrete a sticky mucilage. Fungus gnats, fruit flies, and other tiny insects become trapped on the leaf surface, where digestive enzymes break down prey and release nutrients that are absorbed directly through the foliage. The leaves are typically bright green to yellow-green and may develop warm pink or bronze tones under brighter conditions. Mature plants produce elegant lavender to pale violet flowers on slender stalks, often flowering freely throughout the growing season.

One of the reasons for the popularity of Pinguicula 'Gina' is its combination of ornamental appeal and forgiving nature. Like many Mexican butterworts, it produces a smaller succulent rosette during cooler or drier periods before returning to active carnivorous growth when conditions improve. Its attractive flowers, compact size, and dependable performance make it an excellent representative of the highly diverse Mexican butterwort group and a rewarding addition to any carnivorous plant collection.
