Pinguicula gigantea 'White Flower' is a distinctive form of the Giant Butterwort, a species native to the limestone mountains of Oaxaca, Mexico. In nature, Pinguicula gigantea grows on moist rock faces, mineral-rich seepages, and moss-covered cliffs where humidity remains high for much of the year. This white-flowered form retains the impressive size and vigour of the species while producing elegant white blooms, a feature that sets it apart from the more commonly encountered lavender-flowered forms. Mature plants develop broad, open rosettes that can become among the largest in the genus.

Like other butterworts, Pinguicula gigantea 'White Flower' captures small insects using specialised leaves covered in microscopic glands that secrete a sticky mucilage. Fungus gnats, tiny flies, and other small invertebrates become trapped on the leaf surface before being digested and absorbed as a valuable source of nutrients. The broad, slightly succulent leaves are typically bright green to yellow-green and often display a glossy appearance. Unlike many Mexican butterworts, P. gigantea frequently maintains carnivorous foliage throughout the year and may show only minimal seasonal reduction in growth. The pure white flowers are borne on tall stems above the foliage, creating a striking contrast against the large green rosette.

One of the most remarkable characteristics of Pinguicula gigantea is its ability to reproduce readily from leaf pullings, making it one of the easiest species to propagate vegetatively. Its exceptional size, vigorous growth, and unusual white flowers have made this form highly desirable among collectors and an important parent in hybrid breeding programs. Combining the grandeur of the species with an uncommon floral colour, Pinguicula gigantea 'White Flower' is a standout specimen for enthusiasts seeking something truly distinctive.
