This area is characterised by rugged limestone mountains, moist cliff faces, and mineral-rich seepage zones where butterworts thrive on bare rock and thin soils. Like other forms of Pinguicula gigantea, it is notable for its impressive size, forming broad rosettes that can become among the largest in the genus. Its documented locality and vigorous growth make it particularly desirable among collectors of Mexican carnivorous plants.

The broad carnivorous leaves are covered in microscopic glands that secrete a sticky mucilage used to capture small insects.
