One of its most distinctive features is the presence of \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cstrong data-start=\"435\" data-end=\"464\"\u003etwo small, dark eye-spots\u003c\/strong\u003e\u003cspan\u003e (called “ocelli”) inside the upper part of the pitcher, just below the peristome (the lip of the pitcher). These eye-like markings are thought to help lure insects deeper into the trap. The peristome itself is slightly flared and may be green, yellow, or reddish, depending on light conditions.
